Records Tumbling in Sulangan

Having been dragged around the South Pacific in a small canoe for neary five hours, Phillipe Bagoyoro returned to the village with a Tuna fish in excess of 100 kilos in weight.

This is becoming routine for the village, just before the end of 2005 a monster tuna was caught by hand line from a canoe and weighed in excess of 180 kilos. Considering the fishermen normally catch 10 or 12 fish a day weighing around 3 or 4 kilos, this is starting to set a trend. For this single fish, Phillipe received cash that would normally take him almost a month to earn through fishing. However, he insisted with a wry smile, he would be fishing again tomorrow, just in case the big Tuna were still hanging around waiting for him.

Fishing is the main income of the tiny village of Sulangan but interested visitors can fish from the creek and out on the reef, or if they are feeling adventurous, trips with the fishermen of Sulangan can be arranged.

Villa Pacific beach house rental is fast becomming known for its fishing and touring in the south pacific islands.
