The residence is fully equipped with en suite bathrooms, air conditioning, a contemporary kitchen, large open plan lounge, dining room and two storey entry hall. The floors are tiled throughout with cool ceramics and marble. A TV and DVD player are available at the beach house for your entertainment, if you have any favourite DVD films, please feel free to use the multi-region equipment, a small store nearby has all the latest blockbuster films if required but be warned, the TV is a piece of furniture that usually gathers dust at Villa Pacific the exclusive private beach home.

A Patio and Sun Lounge area provide the perfect setting for morning coffee and as the day dissolves into sunset, perfect for cocktails as the blood red sky bleeds into the ocean. The Philippines beach Villa has two tables and eight comfortable chairs on the patio. There is usually, god willing, a fabulous sunset every evening when the beach home glows in the evening sky.

Hammocking by the sea can be a great way to relax and relieve stress although you should try not to hog the hammocks as there are sure to be others in your villa party, staying at the beach house waiting to chill to the swing of the Philippines night breeze.

A Volleyball court and Badminton court are available on site, as is a hammock, Boules area and BBQ pit. Philippines BBQ’s are usually lit using coconut fibres and shells and add the perfect flavour to fish, steaks, lobsters and prawns. Assistance with the beach villa BBQ is available if required. The beach house has many amenities and assistance with the same.

Surfing, the private Philippines holiday beach villa is only a short distance from the famous Philippine National surfing beach at ABCD Calicoan, the Philippine National surfing championships are held every October and the opportunity for breathtaking surfing or simply fantastic surfing photographs along the Calicoan coastline is limitless depending on individual photographic ability.

Swimming and Bathing, The creek between Calicoan and Sulangan provides the perfect spot for swimming in the crystal clear, warm water, which will beckon you in on every occasion. The creek seperates the Philippine island of Sulangan from Calicoan island and joins the Pacific to Leyte Bay, it is always clean and refreshing. Leyte Bay is very calm, whilst the Pacific Ocean has some great surfing waves ideal for both professional surfers and learner swimmers alike, you will be spoiled for choice at Villa Pacific holiday villa in the Philippines.

Snorkelling for beginners is very pleasant in the creek but with younger children, check the direction and strength of the slight current first. Swimmers can snorkel anywhere on the reef at the tip of the sand bar where coral heads, and multi coloured fish are in abundance. Try a canoe trip around the nearby Philippines island of Kandalom for some exceptional, untouched snorkelling areas.
We also run a trip out to Pearl Island which is a reserve for ocean creatures snorkling here is the best in the world and totally natural, you will never forget Pearl Island.

Scuba Diving There are some excellent sites in the locality of the villa for scuba diving although divers should be trained to an international standard PADI, BSAC, and prepared to travel to the venues, scattered around the Philippine islands.

Fishing is available in the creek between calicoan and Sulangan for small fish, perfect for the kids who can use small nets. There are lots of fishing areas around the beach house location. The reef provides plenty of fish for the casual fisherman but for the enthusiast, a boat can be rented with a pilot and tuna fishing is available (see photo in REVIEWS section records tumble in Sulangan 100kg Tuna) The waters around the holiday beach villa are perfect for all types of fish including shrimps, prawns and the finest lobsters ever seen. Philippines Leyte Bay is very calm, whilst the Pacific Ocean has some great surfing waves, you are spoiled for choice at Villa Pacific holiday villa. Full details will be supplied on application, this beach home has all the amenities for a relaxing holiday of a lifetime.

Space Floating On a crystal clear, dark, cloudless Philippines night go to the beach in swim wear and try not to look up into the night sky. Walk out into the ocean until about knee deep in the warm Pacific. Sit down carefully on a clear sandy area, look to the horizon and close your eyes. Lean back until your body is floating comfortably anchored only by your heels, keep those eyes closed tight. Relax, steady your position and when floating comfortably, count to twenty slowly and then open your eyes. No further explanations will ever be necessary.
Can also be achieved on the beach but not quite as mystical.

Karaoke The local villagers love to sing and will welcome any guests into the Karaoke huts. Have a beer, go to the karaoke by the sea and have a good laugh with the locals, make sure you take part it’s a great way to meet your village hosts, once your inhibitions are gone the perfect holiday starts and you become a valued member of the village.

Beachcombing- See also Samulan beach in tours, Villa Pacific Philippines, being only 600 miles west of the Challenger Deep, the deepest ocean in the world and the Marianos Trench, the tide is always throwing up unusual objects and shells onto Calicoan and Sulangan Island by the million – enjoy.

Photography / Filming There are no superlatives to describe the Philippines sunsets and views, wildlife, general scenery, habitats and tour possibilities by the sea for photographs. If a picture paints a thousand words the internet will never be large enough to incorporate the words to describe this Philippines paradise on earth, just make sure you have enough film and/or batteries to cope with demand. The beach house is surrounded by stunning photo opportunities with sunrise and sunset being the opening and closing of a photo filled day.

Full and detailed information on the beach house will be supplied for your care and enjoyment with your booking details. The Villa Pacific holiday villa is only available by booking through the website and does not accept casual walk in guests.

THINGS TO DO AT VILLA PACIFIC

Dear Valued Enquirer,

I will try to answer your amenities (Things to do when we get to Villa Pacific) questions as best as I can as I know this is what most people want to know.

We have Volleyball Court and Badminton court at the Villa, you can play football if you like and swing in the hammocks to your hearts content. The Villa sits on a private beach. Villa Pacific is surrounded by beautiful beaches, swimming areas and places to snorkel. Samulan Beach (Fantastic for Beach Combing and Shells) I guarantee you will find shells you have never seen before. The national surfing beach of the Philippines is 10 minutes away for some of the best surfing in the world. We have tours that are so fantastic (Buro Buro Cave) you’ll be knocked out. Take some snorkels to Pearl Island, it is better than swimming in a tropical fish tank (Check our website Reviews page). Do they like astronomy? At night the South Pacific Sky is full of stars and Galaxies, float on your back in the sea or lay on the beach and look to the heavens, there is always something moving up there and plenty to see, the shooting stars are unbelievable. Do they like fishing? Wait while they hook a 100kg tuna on a line and it drags their canoe around the South Pacific for a couple of hours (Check out the size of the Tuna in Records tumbling in Sulangan in Reviews) There are Karaoke huts where you can have a beer and sing the night away to the latest (Would you believe Arctic Monkeys) songs or any music of your choice. There are lots of other kids on the island who speak English and WILL make friends with your kids because they like to practise their English and above all make new friends. They are very good kids with good parents and will teach your kids all about the Philippines, the fishing village, Sulangan etc. it will be an education in disguise.

We have a motorbike and Boy the co-coordinator will take single passengers all over the island to airports, lobster farms, fish Farms, (Boys mum owns a fish farm where you can have a canoe and a look around for as long as you like). Or groups can go in one jeepney (Same sort of vehicle as Jurassic Park).

The Challenger Deep, the deepest Ocean in the world is just West of Calicoan Island and the beaches get covered in all sorts of shells, the sort of stuff that you never see back home unless your in a shop that makes Big lanterns out of them. Homonhon if the sea is OK we can take you to the place where Magellan landed, either by motor launch if available or big canoe, on the way there you can fish for big tuna and I mean BIG Tuna. There are wild monkeys, Butterflies as big as dinner plates and Boy can show you spiders as big as a baseball caps if you like. If you’re tough enough, wespray you with insect repellent and take you deep into the jungle on a survival course where you have to survive on Coconuts, coconut milk, pineapples, Mangoes and fresh shrimps BBQd on open fires and no sandwiches from Subway. We will let you drive powered canoes, go fishing with the natives, and see things in the South Pacific that will make your friends and family back home gasp with amazement when you tell them your stories of adventure complete with photographs.

If you have 5 to 10 Year olds, you lucky lucky people, please cherish the days, walk to bottom of garden open the gate, sit in hammock and watch, apart from a check on sunscreen and feeding times, no further input required. Leyte bay is calm and soothing, beautiful for small children and shallow for 50 metres or more.

Weather - the rainy season is December / January so you may get some showers at this time but mostly sunshine and a typically tropical climate of about 30 degrees so even if it does rain you just carry on with what your doing and when it stops you dry out. (Just like Florida but better) We swim in the sea when it rains, it is so refreshing. When we were there in December it was hot most of the time and my head was burned even though I had sun cream but my hair is a bit sparse these days. Sulangan has its own microclimate as it is a tiny island and there is little landmass to start major storms so it is always reasonable weather down there.

The Villa has a state of the art Kitchen, food is easy to purchase and take to the Villa, there is a market in the town and some restaurants about 30 minutes away and you can rent a jeep for just a couple of pounds/dollars for just your family £5/8 dollars is about 500 pesos and will get you anywhere on the island.

There are no nightclubs and bars and therefore no drunks, but a crate of San Miguel beer costs about £5, Bottles of wine are quite cheap and you can organise your own bar in the Villa have a drink on your patio overlooking the sea and watch the sun go down, yes it drops into the sea in front of the Villa, a Magical experience every night

For £5 a day ($10) you can hire a tour guide
For £5 a day ($10) you can have a cook, or laundry person or even a shopper who will do everything you like, your wife will be spoiled.
You can have a BBQ outside every night if you like and eat fresh shrimps, prawns and seafood it is entirely up to you.

Best rates - flat family rate for a family of four is £75 per night for the whole villa which is brand new as of January 2006 There is a dual fuel cooker in a central island, a new microwave, hot showers and
cold water, 4 master bedrooms with en-suites all with air-conditioning and lots of wardrobe space. There is also an attic where we put bored teenagers and make them revise for exams.
See attached PDF

Flights - As with the UK & Europe this is dependent on School times i.e. Kids at school prices are lower, kids off school prices go up. From the United Kingdom we normally pay around £400 - 500 for flights to Manila (Qatar or Emirates Airlines or even KLM do a good deal with around £50 for a flight to Tacloban the internet is the best place for the latest prices.

Advice, Tips and recommendations - OK, please see (PDF)s which we will send and read them to your hearts content. Just remember, this is not your usual package holiday this is an adventure and if you are a bit nervous, so is everyone else when they are enquiring but when they get there, hey! I have had people call me from the Philippines (At 3-00am in the morning) to say how thrilled they are, some could not believe the size of the Villa (I designed the floor space) and it is big, its spacious and you will not want to leave.

We are here for you with the personal touch and when you go to the Philippines we have people there who will guide you every step of the way or leave you in peace, it is entirely up to you. Just remember one thing I cannot control the weather or the tides but I can make sure you have the time of your life. If you want three square meals a day to a set programme, crowded hotels and beaches with towels on empty sun beds, with thousands of tourists, lager louts and yobbish teenagers, this is not for you, this is peace and tranquillity between amazing adventures.

Remember at Villa Pacific you are the rulers and will be treated accordingly.

The choice is yours.

USEFUL TIPS AND INFORMATION

Before you arrive at Villa Pacific

There are no cash machines on the beach, have you ever seen cash machines on a beach? Please make sure you have enough money for the length of your stay in Sulangan. Cash can be obtained in Tacloban but the ATM’s only issue 20,000 pesos per day (£200 / $400) at a time. You should budget for about 5000 pesos (£50 / $100) per day per four adult persons, even if you are going on a trip. You will probably have difficulty spending this much money but better to be prepared and you will soon be able to budget for your requirements. You can always change back to your home currency at Manila International Airport, or if you have enjoyed your holiday and the services provided, a tip is usually most welcomed by our co-ordinators.

Usually after a long haul journey you will be tired and jet lagged, sleep, drink lots of water to re-hydrate and swim in the sea, everything will seem so strange at first but as you acclimatise, your bodies will settle down and you will feel fine. Watch out for the sunburn which is covered later in this sheet. It may be a day or so before you feel normal again. Some people fall right into it and some take a day or so to shake off the tiredness. A walk to Samulan Beach is a good trip for your first tour and then start the more adventurous tours when you have settled in to the surroundings.

Inside the Villa

One or two Small Lizards (Geckos) can be seen inside the villa, high on the walls and ceiling, they are harmless and prevent flies and insects.

Because the Villa is located on the beach there are very few mosquitoes but if you have sensitive skin or small children use a mosquito repellent. The best way to treat a bite if you get one is not to scratch it and it will disappear in an hour or so. If you go into the jungle use mosquito repellent just in case. People are different, some need repellent some don’t use your best judgement and most of all protect the kids.

Use a good quality sun screen and avoid the mid day sun (12-00), take a siesta swim in the sea (remembering to re-apply sun screen) spread your time in the sun over the length of your holiday, remember, a slow tan is a good tan, don’t spoil your holiday with sunburn. Gentlemen, wear a hat if you have short or sparse hair cover, it will save you burning your head which is easily done.

Use water sparingly, the supply tank will be full on your arrival, a full tank should last at least a family of four to 6 at least a week, it will be filled as the level drops at a rate of £20 per delivery approx. Leaving taps running, means the pressurised system will quickly empty the tank. Remember water is a precious resource in the tropical climate of the Philippines. There is plenty of pure drinking water available which is delivered, as you require it.

Occasionally, a power cut is caused when a coconut tree falls into the power lines, it will usually be fixed within an hour or so, if not, the generator will be switched on for your comfort until the main power returns. Keep the torch in a place where it can quickly be found in the darkness, do not let children play with it and drain the batteries.

Outside the Villa

The Philippino people are basically very friendly and will say hi and wave to foreigners. Foreigners are a novelty so don’t be put off by the local populace looking at you, the best way to counter this is to smile, say hello and nod your head or wave to them, in short - copy what they do as a greeting. You will be amazed at the difference this will make and how much more you get on and enjoy your holiday. It costs nothing and will be much appreciated and the kids’ happy, giggling responses are worth it.

Believe it or not, one of the major causes of injury in the Philippines is from falling coconuts, always be aware of where you are standing and what is above your head. Ants occasionally build their nests at the bottom of coconut trees, this weakens the trees and they fall over into power lines causing power cuts, some ants also bite and sting but are basically harmless.

Bare feet are fine on sandy beaches and sandbanks but if you are going to snorkel on the reef or in areas where seaweed covers the bottom, wear a pair of old trainers to prevent injuries from the occasional shells and anemones.

Flip-flops are fine in most locations but if going on a trip, wear comfortable old trainers even if you intend going into the sea.

Do not touch corals, jellyfish or other sea creatures they can give you a sting or bite, they will avoid you if you leave them alone.

This is the tropics and you may see some big hairy spiders, most are harmless however, it is not advisable to interfere with them unless you are sure, ask one of the representatives for advice before poking them with your finger. Butterflies the size of dinner plates will also visit your villa please do not interfere with them as they are very beautiful, fragile and easily harmed. HOWEVER take as many pictures as you like they are free like the butterflies.

Monkeys are harmless and avoid human contact if you do see one you are very lucky and you should observe, take pictures or even film them without making a fuss.

It is unlikely you will see any snakes, if you do, whether in the sea or on land give them a wide berth and they will do the same for you. If you are travelling through the darkness use the torch. There are crabs on the beach at night they are harmless but can give you a fright as they scurry away. Sometimes turtles arrive on the beach, you may see dolphins and rays, all part of the Villa Pacific experience.

Shopping / Eating Out

The closest town is Guiuan which is thirty minutes drive from the Villa. A jeepney can be hired or you can catch a bus with the local villagers. In Guiuan there are some burger bars, roast chicken BBQ’s and scrumptious halo-halo ice cream feasts. Pizza restaurant GiGi’s – and Tangay Restaurant. You can sit outside or inside even at night, Tangay has a beach front terrace and a selection of good food. Soft drinks are much the same as back home but the food differs because they use fresh produce only and local delicacies take precedent. With a few try’s you will find what you prefer and be able to order the food of your choice.

Tacloban has McDonalds, Burger King, Jollibee etc who make brilliant burgers called Champ. As you travel south from Tacloban the fast food chains disappear and simpler restaurants appear. Try Ocho in Tacloban for a delicious sea food special including Lobster, Prawns, Shrimps and Clams.
There are a number of choices if you don’t like seafood including Chips and Egg. There is also chip pan in the Villa if you are so inclined.

Prawns, Shrimps, etc are available at the Villa for BBQ’s just ask the attendant (His name is Boy) for your requirements.

Please note !!!

Villa Pacific is located on a tropical island and has everything associated with the tropics, hot weather, tropical flora & fauna, tropical animals and insects, please do not interfere with the local wildlife and the local wildlife will not interfere with you. In most cases it is entertaining to observe mother nature at work but we advise against interfering with any creatures you come across, leave them alone and they will do the same for you. We have never yet had mishap at Villa Pacific and we would like to keep it that way.

When going on trips wear the appropriate clothing, start with easy trips first such as Samulan Beach, you’ll never forget Samulan. Buro Buro Cave, the experience will thrill and amaze you. Guiuan Airbase from where the American Air force took off in the Enola Gay to launch the nuclear attacks on Japan and work up to the more adventurous trips. Wear old trainers even in the sea and if going into the jungle or tropical areas you should use mosquito repellent. Mosquitoes are more numerous around stagnant water, stay away from stagnant water and you will avoid mosquitoes.

We want you to have a brilliant, fantastic, adventurous holiday but we can’t hold your hand whilst participating in this once in a lifetime experience (I wish we could). Please take good care of yourselves, as YOU ALONE are responsible for your own safety, if you are not capable of caring for yourself and your family / group, please consider staying close to the Villa and enjoying the beach and amenities, as Villa Pacific cannot accept any responsibility for the accidents and incidents of its guests.
